Fans will have to wait another 2 months to see the Quintana vs. Cannetti rematch
As first reported by CagedMinds.com on Twitter this afternoon, the June 28 Combate Americas mixed martial arts card set to take place at the Santa Ana Star Center has officially been cancelled. SWFight.com has learned that the Featherweight World Title fight between Andres Quintana and Bruno Cannetti has been moved to the Harrah’s Lake Tahoe for an August 23 date.
“We ran into a situation with the venue and the fight community,” Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren told SWFight.com alluding to low ticket sales. “We didn’t think it was an event that we wanted to follow through on.”
“We’re moving the Quintana vs. Cannetti fight to Harrah’s Casino in Tahoe on August 23,” he continued. “It’s a sexier venue.”
The cancellation of the card is a blow to hard core MMA fans in the Albuquerque-area that have been eager to see a world title fight involving a New Mexico fighter especially one that has been on fire as much as Quintana.
As is the case with many other cancelled shows in the region, low ticket sales are to blame for Combate Americas moving the card to what they feel is a more attractive venue and location.
The Quintana vs. Cannetti bout was a highly anticipated rematch of their December, Copa Combate 2 semifinal match where both men hurt each other.
Quintana went on to win the tournament where he claimed a $100,000 prize. Stay tuned to SWFight.com for more details
