Golden Boy Live! Will Feature Albuquerque’s Fidel Maldonado Jr. in the co-main Event.
A Golden Boy Promotions’ press release on Thursday announced updates to their September 29th nationally televised Fox Sports 1 card in Hidalgo, Texas.
Most notably the main event suffered a setback when former world champion Antonio Tarver would be forced out of his fight with Johnathon Banks due to a thumb injury. Moving up from co-main event to main event will be California’s Joseph Díaz (11-0, 7KOs) against fellow featherweight Raúl “Bule” Hidalgo (22-11, 16KOs).
The new co-main event will feature Albuquerque’s Fidel Maldonado Jr. (18-2, 15KOs) against an unnamed opponent. Coincidentally, also expected on the card is Ricardo Alvarez (23-3, 13KOs), brother of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, a light-welterweight like Maldonado who is also without an opponent that evening.
Could we potentially see Maldonado face Alvarez if an opponent is not found for either within the next week and a half?
The fights take place Monday September 29th live on from the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.
