MMA Fighter Joseph Torrez Will Not Face Charges for Killing Man During Home Invasion
As first reported by El Paso’s KVIA, Las Cruces, New Mexico’s Joseph Torrez who police said killed a man breaking into his home will not face charges from the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
A mixed martial arts fighter, Torrez made national news after fending off four men Sal Garces, 25, Leonard Calvillo, 22, Raymond Garces, 19, and Nathan Avalos, 20, in an early morning New Years home invasion.
The elder Garces would be pronounced dead at the scene reportedly from injuries suffered from blunt force trauma and stab wounds.
In a statement on Thursday, the DA’s Office said it agrees with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office report that there is not enough evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Torrez killed Sal Garces without legal justification.
Torrez took to Facebook earlier today to confirm the news and to thank family, friends and fans for their support:
