UFC Fight Night 42 Odds, 3 of 4 New Mexican Fighters are Underdogs

On Saturday night, UFC Fight Night 42: Benson Henderson vs. Rustam Khabilov will take place at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This past Sunday the odds were finally released for the bouts. The most anticipated odds from the card were undoubtedly the main event’s fight between former lightweight champion and number two ranked lightweight Benson Henderson and number eleventh ranked lightweight Rustam Khabilov.

Many feel that this match-up is an example of one of the main flaws in the UFC Rankings; logic would say that a top three ranked fighter should only face opponents ranked in the top five or at the worst the top 10. When the contract was originally signed Henderson was ranked #1 and Khabilov was ranked #15.

It is funny how those rankings have changed. It is also funny how those complaining about this match-up the most, have no idea of Khabilov’s skill.

With a 17-1 record (3-0 in the UFC) the sambo expert is a force to be reckoned with. A victory for Khabilov over Henderson this Saturday would skyrocket him near the top of the UFC Rankings. A loss for Henderson will immediately take him out of title contention; it also does not help that in this week’s rankings Henderson was leaped-frogged by Gilbert Melendez, in another inexplicable move often seen in the rankings. Neither guy has fought to be able to make an impact on them.

The following odds are an average of several Sportsbooks provided by BestFightOdds.com, my favorite site for MMA odds, for tonight’s UFC Fight Night 42.

According to the odds the closest fight is expected to be the Bryan Caraway and Erik Perez bantamweight contest. The wides odds come in a top five flyweight showdown between heavily favored John Dodson of Albuquerque against underdog John Moraga of Arizona.

Dodson is the only New Mexico based fighter that is favored on tonight’s Albuquerque card. (Local fighters are in bold below)
