King of the Cage "Future Legends 23"

In less than two weeks, King of the Cage returns to Albuquerque and will invade the Crowne Plaza for “Future Legends 23”. Fight fans better get ready for a night of exciting mixed martial arts action on May 24th at 7:00 P.M. The action packed amateur fight card will be yet another event in the books for the longest running MMA series in New Mexico.

The Colorado based fighter knows his way around a cage. Not only his seasoned and experienced, Lifer MMA's Joey Trevino is one of the more successful amateur fighters in the region.

This Colorado based fighter knows his way around a cage, not only is he seasoned and experienced but Lifer MMA’s Joey Trevino is one of the more successful amateur fighters in the region.

In typical King of the Cage fashion, the show will bring several gyms together to complete the fight card. As scheduled, 17 gyms will be featured as part of the 16 fight event. The FIT NHB, Get Fit Fight and Judgement MMA gyms currently have four fighters a piece on the event listing, the Transcendence MMA gym has three fighters matched up and several other gyms have two fighters to represent their home base at “Future Legends 23”.

The stacked fight card will be headlined FIT NHB’S Charlie Williams who is arguably one of the most seasoned amateur fighters in our state’s regional circuit. Williams dictates the stand-up with his powerful kicks and possesses a very exciting style of grappling that features guard passes and sweeps from his back.

Fellow teammates of Williams who also own valuable experience in the amateur ranks, George Clynes and Ronald Smith will fight in their eighth and sixth amateur fights respectively.

Judgement MMA seems to always deliver several fighters on King of the Cage fight cards and seemingly in each event, one of their fighters seems to steal the show in one way or another. In the last event inside the Crowne Plaza, in his amateur debut, Carlo Rodriguez brought the crowd to their feet with a devastating one-punch knockout. He will look to capitalize on that momentum on May 24th.

Teammate and mentor to Rodriguez, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt Shannon Curlee will look to right the ship after a tough loss in 2013 and Brent James will take a spot atop the undercard against the very talented striker in Victor Orquiz of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

No stranger to the cage, FIT NHB's Charlie Williams will headline the stacked "Future Legends 23" fight card and will look to continue his recent streak of success.

No stranger to the cage, FIT NHB’s Charlie Williams will headline the stacked “Future Legends 23” fight card and will look to continue his recent streak of success.

One of the more athletic and potential-full young fighters in the area, Louis Papas will step into the cage in what could be considered an early candidate for “Fight of the Night” when he steps into the cage against one of the most exciting fighters on the regional circuit, Joey Trevino of Lifer MMA in Cortez, Colorado.

A featured WMMA bout is scheduled for the evening’s festivities as the very talented grappler, Nicco Montano of Durango Martial Arts will put her unblemished record on the line against Leann Acosta of Transcendence MMA. The very talented grappler is definitely one of the more skilled women fighters in the region. She will join teammates Ryan Wirth in representing the Colorado gym.

You can always expect the thunder when J5’s MMA is in the building as the Grants, New Mexico gym has been emerging as a prominent gym producing quality amateur MMA talent. On this event, the strength and dominating power of Gerald Aldaco takes on a very game Nathan Vidana from the Get Fit Fight gym. Aldaco will bring six fights of MMA experience with him which will contrast teammate Isai Bartolone who will be making his cage debut.

Luis Castillo of Santa Fe’s 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu will bring a very high level of grappling into the cage as he will also make his MMA debut. The very talented grappling ace already has several prominent Jiu Jitsu tournament wins to his name and will seek now to add a mixed martial arts career to his resume.

All of these great, talented fighters and awesome match-making and much, much more will be held for the viewing pleasure of fight fans. This event is already on pace to sellout the Crowne Plaza so get your tickets now from your favorite fighter or by visiting www.holdmyticket.com. Stay tuned to SWFight for more event coverage, bout breakdowns and analysis.

The King of the Cage promotion may be the owner of the richest history in the New Mexico combat sport’s world and despite keeping consistent on ticket sales, the promotion has lacked the premier “Star” that would typically emerge from their ranks.
