Tuesday afternoon at the historic Albuquerque Rail Yards near downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico, the upcoming Jackson’s MMA Series’ all amateur card, Protégés, was officially announced.
On May 10th, the refurbished Blacksmith Shop, known as The Yards, will temporarily be turned into a 1,000-seat Mixed Martial Arts venue when the 11 MMA amateur fight card goes down.“It’s got that grunge feel,” said Jackson’s MMA fighter Ricky Esquibel, who will be taking on southern Colorado’s Chris Brewer in a 125-pound main event. “If you’re here you have to fight. It’s got that fight feel.”
A fight feel is right. The Yards, a red brick and steel structure with floor-to-ceiling panes of green and yellow glass and bare floor seems like a perfect, and unique place for an amateur to build a foundation for their future careers.
The main event is a rematch as fighters first met in the cage in September of 2012, with Esquibel coming out with a first round submission victory. Brewer, Esquibel admits, took the fight on four days notice
The event will have and community feel as food trucks will also be on hand to feed fans, and for those interested in getting tipsy, a Patron VIP tent will also be set up.
The Yards are located at 1100 2nd St SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
Tickets which range from $39.50-$83.00, are already on sale and can be purchased at the following link: http://holdmyticket.com/#/e/166598
