Fidel Maldonado vs. John Fater Full Fight – Fox Sports 1
It was an easy night for Fidel Maldonado Jr. in his main event bout against late-replacement John Nater Monday evening in San Antonio, Texas. The nationally broadcasted bout on Fox Sports 1 did not provide the fireworks that Maldonado’s last fight did but it yielded the same result for the Albuquerque, New Mexico native.
It was a feeling out process through most of the of first two rounds as the men two-stepped around each other inside Cowboys Dancehall. Nater (13-5, 10KOs), of Puerto Rico, had the speed advantage but not the power or accuracy to really hurt or score cleanly on Maldonado (18-2, 15KOs).
In the third, Maldonado mounted the pressure. With 54 seconds left in the third he landed a left to Nater’s body, followed by a right hook to head and another straight left which sent the Puerto Rican to his knees. Nater would survive the rest of the round by holding and avoiding any exchange with Maldonado.
Stalking Nater early in the 4th, a set of mean left hooks that would land for Maldonado while cupping Nater’s head with his right hand, once again hurt his body, sending him back to the canvas at the 02:08 mark. Nater would make it to the end of the round but it would be during the minute rest period leading to the fifth, a commercial break for the television audience, that he and his corner would decide to call off the contest.
The victory marks the fourth consecutive technical knockout victory for Maldonado.
