Every UFC event seemingly at the very least gets a small bite from the injury bug. Sometimes it is major and affects the main event and other times the fighter injured is quickly replaced for his slot on the undercard by another undercard fighter. In this instance, New Mexico fight fans get the better end of this news from the UFC concerning their UFC ON FOX 8 show July 27th.
One King of the Cage veteran will swap with another in the UFC Lightweight division, as the injured Bobby Green will make room for New Mexico’s Tim Means (18-4) to match up with Danny Castillo (15-5). Means and Green were both King of the Cage Champions and now will also be linked in their MMA careers as well.
Castillo is a Team Alpha Male fighter who most recently upset rising prospect Paul Sass at the UFC ON FUEL TV 7 show this past February. He is 5-2 during his UFC run and is most notable for his wins over perennial contenders Dustin Poirier and Ricardo Lamas and loss to Anthony Pettis back in his WEC career. He is a very technical wrestler and has solid defensively grappling that makes Castillo’s opposition work tirelessly to get separation enough to mount offense.
The Tom and Arlene Vaugn trained fighter has won all but two of eighteen career victories with a finish and fight fans should expect fireworks between these two. Castillo interestingly has a similar style to Masvidal giving means the opportunity to show improved defensive wrestling which would only dangerously compliment his elite level offensive striking skills.
FIT NHB’s Tim “The Dirty Bird” Means is a local favorite and one of the most exciting finishers in the world at 155-pounds. Means is coming off of a loss to former Strikeforce title contender Jorge Masvidal in a fight that displayed the rare instance of the fight on his back competitively winning rounds. The powerful and brutally accurate Muay Thai and kickboxing skills of Means had him on a ten-fight, three year streak without losses and Means is undoubtedly hungry to get back on a winning note.
The fight will go down on July 27th for the UFC ON FOX 8 event which will be held inside the KeyArena is Seattle, Washington. The headlining bout will be fought for the Flyweight Title between competitors Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga who are notably both opponents of Albuquerque’s John Dodson. Also scheduled for the card, Jackson-Winklejohn’s Julie Kedzie making her UFC debut against Germaine de Randamie.
