New Mexico vs. Colorado Border Wars Card in the Works for Sept. 21st

Chavez Promotions is currently working on a September 21st Albuquerque card that pins New Mexican fighters against Coloradans. The venue is to be determined although Boxrec.com shows it currently as the Albuquerque Convention Center.

The only confirmed match showcases Aztec, New Mexico’s Joe Gomez (19-7, 9KOs) against Longmont, Colorado’s Raul “El Chino” Carrillo (12-1, 7KOs) in an 8 round welterweight contest. Local fight fans will remember Carrillo as last man to defeat current New Mexico Welterweight kingpin Josh Torres.

Also expected on the card is Fort Collins, Colorado’s John Ryan Grimaldo (9-2, 6KOs) who is currently slated to take on an unnamed opponent in a 10 round welterweight match. It is sure many will keep their fingers crossed in hopes that Torres fills this vacant spot. Recently, it has been reported that Grimaldo has called both Torres and Gomez out.

Undefeated Albuquerquean Matthew Esquibel (8-0, 4KOs), who has not fought since 2008, will be making an highly anticipated return that evening on the undercard. As is the case with most of the other fights thus far, Esquibel is also left opponent-less for the time being.
