Orthrus Promotions made its debut as a mixed martial arts promotion earlier this year when they put on the Triple-A-MMA show titled “Win To Get In” which was a gimmick based around the winners of the professional bouts earning an opportunity to fight for the Bellator MMA show coming to Rio Rancho in July. The fight card was an exciting first event for the promotion and featured Mean 1 MMA’s Felipe Chavez punching his ticket to Bellator 97.
With a rumored card set to go down in August, Orthrus Promotions is teasing yet another local studded card on their social media pages and the main event for their sophomore efforts in the MMA promotion business may be another buzz worthy match up.
This past week, Warrior Training Center and Santa Fe Brazilian Jiu Jitsu’s Angelo “The San-I Warrior” Sanchez (12-3) posted a picture of a contract signing and FIT NHB’s Ray Borg (3-0) was the picture on a Orthrus Facebook status with a caption implying Borg was amongst the list of rumored names to have signed with the promotion. While the two don’t normally fight in the same weight class, there are signs that may suggest the pair may square off.
For fans and followers of Sanchez, it has been known over the last several weeks that he would be making the trial cut down to the 135-pound bantamweight division after spending the last several years as a 145-pound featherweight. For Borg, fight fans associate the young prospect as a Flyweight but he has entertained fights at 135-pounds. Not only would the match up generate buzz, but would make for a North vs. South main event that could more then bring interest from regional New Mexico fight fans.
Keep in mind that this is not official or announced by any source and is just speculation based on occurrences and suggestions from social media outlets. However, with the Triple-A-MMA’s first show tendencies, it would be likely that we will see more locals competing versus one another. Standing alongside their mantra of “Win To Get In”, the fight would also make sense as Sanchez was already scheduled for Bellator 91 before an injury derailed the fight much like it did for Felipe Chavez who was the headliner of the promotions first show.
So many similarities and strong signs should suggest that this fight card may be one to keep an ear and eye out for in the coming weeks as fight announcements are suggested.
