The city of Albuquerque’s best boxer Fidel Maldonado Jr. (15-2, 12KOs) is back in action south of the border this weekend as he takes on Sinaloa, Mexico’s Abraham Alvarez Osuna (16-3-1, 7KOs) at the Centro de Convenciones in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico.
Despite the venue and opponent being last minute notice, Maldonado had been busy in the gym training for a June 7th contest slated for the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, against Luis Ramos. That fight was cancelled due to Ramos pulling out for personal reasons.
The June 15th fight makes up part of the undercard for the WBC Silver Light Welterweight Title fight main event between undefeated light welterweight prospect Roberto Ortiz (28-0, 22KOs) and Jorge Romero (24-5, 21KOs). Maldonado defeated Romero in his last outing via an infatuating 3rd round knockout.
This marks the sixth time Maldonado will fight in Mexico.
