Earlier today Fidel Maldonado Sr. confirmed that his son Fidel Maldonado Jr. (15-2,12KOs) would be facing fellow Golden Boy Promotions’ fighter Luis Ramos Jr. (23-1,10KOs) on June 8th at Home Depot Center in Carson, California.
“Everything’s done except we don’t know if we’ll be defending our WBC Latino belt,” says Maldonado Sr. of the battle of southpaws and the WBC Latino American title which his son captured in February by knocking out Jorge “Koky” Romero in Quitana Roo, Mexico.
The 24-year-old Ramos Jr. is coming off of his first professional loss by 5thround TKO against 2000 United States Olympian Silver Medalist Ricardo Williams Jr. last December. The stoppage was controversial to many as the cuts above Ramos left and right eyes appeared to be caused by head-butts. Only one of them was ruled accidental.
The contest between Maldonado and Ramos is expected to take place at lightweight and stacks an already talent loaded Showtime card. In the main-event of the evening Marcos Rene Maidana will take on Josesito Lopez while Erislandy Lara and Alfredo Angulo square off in the co-main event.
