This Saturday, January 5th the first major MMA event to feature New Mexico talent will be live to online audiences willing to get the USTREAM IPPV for $7.95 located on the InvictaFC.com website.
Invicta Fight Championships is a promotion that strictly promotes Woman’s MMA and has featured not only the elite women competitors but so many up and coming fighters. Invicta’s fourth show will be stacked with talent once again and will feature two of New Mexico’s most promising women athletes.
In the evening’s stacked undercard, Jackson-Winklejohn fighter Emily Kagan (2-0) will look to build off her perfect 2012 when she faces off with Rose Namajunas (0-0 professional, 4-0 amateur) of The Academy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Kagan won all three of her 2012 bouts that included her final amateur bout; impressively all three of her fights were highly competitive fights that saw Kagan awarded judge’s decisions each time. Not only solidifying her regional placement with tough wins for the Jackson’s MMA Series in January and also made the trip to Dakota to beat home town fighter Glena Avila.
Joining Kagan in the festivities will be teammate Jodie Esquibel (2-0). While 2012 wasn’t a busy year for Esquibel, it was a successful one as she won her only bout of the year by unanimous decision in January. While she is coming off a long layoff, the women of the Jackson-Winklejohn camp always come prepared to bring the fight to their opponents.
Standing opposite Esquibel in the cage will be Liz “Lightning” McCarthy (1-0). While the two share an equal level of experience in professional fights, McCarthy is very experienced on the amateur level with six fights. She will have the experience advantage and will also represent a reputable gym hailing from Team Quest.
