On February 28th, New Mexico will be on the national MMA stage when Bellator 91 is hosted at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho. Currently scheduled to highlight the card is a Light Heavyweight title fight featuring champion Christian M’Pumbu. A large amount of local talent will also be featured on the undercard.
One of the most recent additions to the card will be Santa Fe’s Joshua “The Destroya” Montoya (10-7) who is set to take on former Bellator title challenger Ed West (17-7) in a 135-pound bout. Representing Judgement MMA and Alchemy BJJ, Montoya will look to put his two-fight win streak on the line against the APEX MMA fighter who has fought a “who’s who” in the Bellator bantamweight division. The fight represents Montoya’s toughest fight to date and while he looks for momentum, his opponent West will be seeking redemption as he is on the tough end of a losing streak.
Joining Montoya on the card will be fellow Judgement MMA teammate Felipe Chavez (5-3) will be making his first appearance in the cage in over three years. Stay tuned to SWFight.com for the announcing of their opponents and fight breakdowns.
Also expected to compete will be Lenny Lovato Jr. (8-1) and Josh Lanier (3-6), two popular New Mexico fighters who have not competed recently due to injuries that have plagued their careers.
Several other local fighters are rumored to be scheduled for the event including a prominent Jackson’s-Winklejohn’s fighter, a veteran of Northern New Mexico MMA and a cross over star who may make a huge splash for Bellator. As information continues to be confirmed, we will be providing the updated fight news and analysis.
