A source tells SWFight.com that ESPN Friday Night Fights will be making it’s return to New Mexico on January 11th, 2013. The event is being backed primarily by Goossen Tutor Promotions and will be taking place at the Pueblo Pavilion at the Santa Fe Indian School.
Three bouts are slated for the broadcasted portion on ESPN2 that evening:
In the main event lightweight contenders John Molina Jr. (24-2) from Covina, California and Dannie Williams (24-2) of St. Louis, Missouri, will square-off in a 12-round contest. A co-main event set for eight rounds will feature Sacramento prospect Brandon Gonzalez (16-0, 10KOs). An oppponent for Gonzalez has not yet been determined.
A swing bout would be the third match considered for the broadcasted portion of the card.
Local talent is also tentatively scheduled to be on the bill as Albuquerque prospect Archie Ray Marquez (14-2, 9KOs) will appear in a six or eight round bout against an opponent TBA.
Making his professional debut will be Santa Fe’s Brandon Holmes, son of well known New Mexico trainer Patrick Holmes. Holmes was originally supposed to have his first fight on a September card at The Pit in Albuquerque. That card was eventually scrapped.
There are plans to include a few more New Mexicans on the card, their participation will depend on the results of some of the fights on tomorrow’s Holly Holm vs. Diana Prazak card.
It was in May of 2010 that ESPN’s Friday Night Fights was last in New Mexico as Yordanis Despaigne faced former interim WBA Light Heavyweight Champion Hall in the main event, in a card was co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Danny Romero promotions.
