This afternoon a press conference to announce the January 11th ESPN Friday Night Fights card in Santa Fe, New Mexico was held at Momma D’s Dugeon in Albuquerque.
The card as previously reported by SWFight.com last week, is primarily being backed by Goossen Tutor Promotions and will take place the Santa Fe Indian School Pueblo Pavilion.
It is also expected to carry a load of local talent as Archie Ray Marquez (14-2) will participate in a scheduled six-rounder. Former 7-time New Mexico Golden Gloves State Champion Siju Shabazz (1-0) of Las Cruces is still looking for an opponent in a four-round bout.
Two New Mexicans will also be making their professional debuts as Santa Fe’s Brandon Holmes will be facing Albuquerque’s David Castillo (3-5) and Mark Cordova faces former King of the Cage champion Angelo Sanchez (0-1-1).
Local fight fans will also be thrilled to know that Española’s Tony Valdez (7-3-3) is expected to open up the night’s action against Denver’s Tim Ibarra (2-2).
Just also added to the card is Cecilia Renova who will be making her professional debut for Albuquerque’s Warrior Boxing. Her opponent is yet to be determined.
The nationally televised card is set to be headlined by former lightweight title challenger John Molina (24-2, 19KOs) who will be facing undefeated Russian prospect Andrey Klimov (14-0, 8KOS) for the NABO Lightweight championship.
In the co-main event of the evening Californian super middleweight prospect Brandon Gonzales (16-0-1, 10KOs) takes on revitalized Don Mouton (11-4-1, 9KOs) of Houston, Texas.
Tickets for the event will go on sale late this week on Ticketmaster.com.
