JMMAS IX - Dodson vs Garcia

Jackson’s MMA Series X –  Jon Sparks vs Allen Washington

Many regional promotions in the sport of MMA tend to mix amateur and professional bouts onto one fight card and are split up to showcase the professional fighters on what is called the “main card.” The terminology should not be taken literally as the amateur fights are every bit deserving of the attention and anticipation of the professional bouts.

The Jackson’s MMA Series X event slated to go down December 1st, at the Tingley Coliseum will not be any different as the amateur portion of the card is filled with talent and headlined by two very exceptional match ups.

In a 150-pound catchweight bout, Jackson’s-Winklejohn’s representative Jon Sparks (4-3 amateur) will take on Colorado’s Allen Washington (3-3 amateur). The two will meet in the middle of each fighters respective weight class, Sparks competes at 155-pounds and Washington as a 145-pounder. This amateur fight will feature both fighters bringing in a respectable amount of amateur experience as the pair will bring in a combined 13 fights.

Sparks was last seen at the Jackson’s MMA Series XIII in June, where he submitted Greg Chavez with a cross face late into the final frame of the fight and before he was victorious at Jackson’s MMA Series XI pulling off a win over Adam McQuirk via rear naked choke. Sparks has not lost under the promotions banner and will look to make it 4-0 as a competitor for the Jackson’s MMA Series.

Washington is looking to rebound from a tough split decision loss in Colorado this past September. While he comes in to face a local talent, Washington will be fighting slightly heavier than normal which may tend to mean less of a weight cut. There are plenty of variables here as the extra five pounds may give Washington the speed and cardio advantage or he could come in with too much of a size disadvantage. Listed at 5’11” the Colorado fighter will be slightly taller than his opponent.

Jackson’s MMA Series X – Eric Dodson vs Scott Ingram

In what may be the most anticipated match up of the evening aside from the co-Main and main event fights, Ultimate Fighter winner and current UFC Flyweight top contender John Dodson will once again have the chance to see his brother Eric Dodson (1-0 amateur) fight under the bright lights of Tingley Coliseum. This time Dodson, will be matched up with another experienced amateur in Colorado’s Scott Ingram (3-3 amateur).

Debuting at the Jackson’s MMA Series IX, Dodson made some noise with a breathtakingly exciting 80 seconds of action that saw him and opponent Fernie Garcia both rattled with punches in wild exchanges until Dodson caught Garcia with counter punches that folded Garcia giving Dodson the opportunity to secure the victory. While the crowd was on edge from the opening bell, they would explode when the ref stepped into stop the fight and thus the Dodson’s fan base was born.

Ingram should not be taking lightly, after two fights in the month of September a third win in 2012 would make for an impressive year of fighting. In Ingram’s .500 record you will see a well rounded fighter. He has won and lost by each method possible which includes his most recent fight concluding with a submission victory. This fight undoubtedly will be one of the most anticipated of the card and Dodson is sure to get a roar from his local crowd.

These fights and many more will bring the excitement MMA fans crave so stay tuned to SWFight.com for more fight coverage and match up breakdowns.
