There is something to be said about an exceptional athlete making strides in their careers while always representing their roots of where they came from. New Mexico is rich with pride of our athletes though their successful ventures and their downfalls. Someone the mixed martial arts community should be extremely excited to put their support in is a 26-year old who trains in the heart of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Training out of FIT NHB, Frank Baca is a highly touted prospect in the MMA community. With an impressive record (14-2 professional, 8-0 amateur) and a very tough style that sees a combination of slick wrestling, dominating ground work and much underrated stand up, there is little surprise when Baca is announced as one of New Mexico’s top talents. With a calm and friendly demeanor, the 135-pound Baca definitely one to watch for as he embarks on his pursuit to compete against the best and showcase his talents.

A professional for four years, Baca has shown his well rounded skill set through his resume as he has won five fights by knock out, five fights by submission and four fights by decision. Baca has made his name and reputation by fighting notable names like Mamoru Yamaguchi, Marvin Garcia, Russell Doane and Mike Chupa.

Currently, Baca is on his way to fight at Riverwind Casino, in Norman, Oklahoma for the King of the Cage event titled “Surgical Strike.” He will be searching for a win and earn redemption after a tough, five-round decision loss in early July, fight where Baca would lose his King of the Cage Flyweight title. A win over opponent Teddy Potts will put Baca right back on the track towards a title shot and another opportunity to fight current Champion Russell Doane in a fight many say was down to the wire, close as can be and arguably a bad call that should have favored Baca.

For those not familiar with Baca, he wrestled for Highlands High School where he’d find major success as a wrestler, competing in the state wrestling tournament all four years on the varsity team. His transition into MMA has been seemingly smooth as his success has come plenty, joining his teammates Tim Means, Gerald Sedillo and fresh to the MMA scene Ray Borg in much deserved spotlight in the State’s combat sport limelight.

We here at SWFight.com wish Baca the best in his fight tomorrow night and New Mexico fight fans should be excited to see him compete in front of his hometown New Mexico once again.
