This Saturday night, Albuquerque’s Angelica Chavez (4-2) out the South Valley’s Chavez Dojo, lost a tough three round unanimous decision to Nicdali Rivera-Calonoc at Invicta FC 2 in Kansas City, Kansas by unanimous decision 30-27, 29-28 (2).
The two women came out extremely aggressive with Rivera-Calonoc controlling much of the round standing up against the cage and on the ground. The highlight for Chavez came with a front-kick to Rivera-Calonoc’s face leading to a brief slugfest between the two drawing a roar from the crowd.
In the second stanza Rivera-Calonoc, was once again able to control the action against the cage, Chavez however was able to defend beautifully by blocking punches and implementing submission attempts.
Halfway through the round Chavez attempted to take the fight to the ground but unfavorably ended up giving top position to Rivera-Calonoc, who was able to land several hammerfists. Chavez was able to fend off most of the blows and was able to land sporadic knees off her back.
In the final round, the two fighters once again found themselves on the ground. Chavez, had several submission attempts from her back and was even able to use the butterfly defense to land some flush jabs.
A slick Chavez, was also able to sneak her way to a rear-naked choke attempt. She ended the round strongly with an armbar as time expired Rivera-Calonoc.
