The First Ever UFC on Fuel Why You Should Watch

OK I’ll be honest; most people aren’t too excited about the UFC on Fuel 1 card.  Most of the reasons are lame and have more to do with being novice fans than anything else. I’ve heard mumbling of the free cards not having any star power fights and the fighters not being familiar to anyone etc. However, if you live in the southwest, particularly NM, and if you follow Southwest Fight News, you’re smarter than the average bear. ABQ fighter and KOTC champ, Tim Means will be fighting Bernard Magalhaes in the prelims, in a fight that hopefully earns all of us the right to see more of Tim in the UFC.  Diego Sanchez also of ABQ, will be taking on Jake Ellenberger in arguably the most important make or break fight of his career, with the winner catapulting to a 170lb title shot. Also training out of ABQ on tonights card is Buddy Roberts, he’ll be fighting Sean Loeffler in a middleweight bout.

While Diego has recent losses to BJ Penn and John Hathaway, he’s also coming off wins over Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann.  Diego is an explosive wrestler who should match up well against fellow wrestler Ellenberger.

Ellenberger’s last loss was to none other than NM’s own Carlos Condit; he followed that loss however, with 5 consecutive wins, Jake Shields being the most recent victim. Ellenberger has a lot of momentum going into this fight, hopefully Diego can stifle that.
Tim Means currently holds two King of the Cage titles and he’s on an eight fight streak. Tim’s aggression is hard to deal with for any opponent, and his striking and kick boxing is top level. Six of his last eight wins have been by KO or TKO. I recently did an interview with Tim, I can tell you first hand he’s ready to do some damage tonight.

Buddy Roberts is riding a five fight winning streak right into the UFC. Look for buddy to push the pace of the fight and deliver lots of kicks. With 36% of his wins by KO/TKO, 45% by submission, and 18% by decision, Buddy is dangerous anywhere the fight goes, he had a decision victory over Tony Lopez last summer in the Jackson’s MMA series.  Roberts is a middle weight dark horse to watch for.

Sack Up
The biggest reason people are complaining about this one is NOBODY GETS THE FUEL CHANNEL! So perhaps the UFC on Fuel is a clever ploy to get people to complain enough to their cable company that Fuel will gain some traction and we’ll  all have it by the summer.

So if nothing else, show some SW pride and go out and support your local fighters, heck there’s 3 of them on the card!  Get a kitchen pass, head over to a pub or sports bar with Fuel, have a beer with your buddies, get your yell on, and watch some great fights.  I can’t think of a better reason to get out of the house on a Wednesday night!
